Dr. Sarah Allen Sheds Light on Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year for the past 21 years I have worked with Illinois Governors to proclaim May as Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month in Illinois.

Recently I spoke with Ellie Anders from Chicago North Shore Moms about why I do this, my passion for helping new moms and the work we do here at the Postpartum Depression Alliance of Illinois.

This is what Chicago North Shore Moms Author Ellie Anders said ” May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month in Illinois, and maternal mental health professional, Dr. Sarah Allen, founder and director of the Postpartum Depression Alliance of Illinois (PPD IL), wants you to know about it.

According to the PPD IL, postpartum depression & anxiety affects 10-20% of all new mothers. As the founder of the PPD IL Alliance, she passionately advocates for accessible resources and support for women and men, emphasizing the importance of awareness, prevention, and treatment. Through her extensive research on trauma and postpartum depression, Dr. Allen offers a holistic approach to care, ensuring no mother faces these challenges alone.

In my exclusive interview, Dr. Allen shares insights into the PPD IL Alliance and avenues for new mothers to access the support they deserve as well as a few free resources you can start using now”.
